Super Furry Animals were formed as a techno outfit after members of noise rock combo ffa coffi pawb got together for a new project. Adding Acid Casuals DJ Cian Ciaran and guitarist Huw Bunford to the lineup, singer Gruff Rhys, bassist Guto Price and drummer Daffyd Ieuan signed to the Welsh independent Ankst and released two eps in Welsh. Having decided to be an indie group, they first released Llanfairpwllgwyngwllgogerychwndrobwllantysiliogogogochynygofod(In Space) ep. It was so titled purely to get into the Guiness book of records for the longest name for a single ever. It was followed by Moog Droog ep, before Alan Mcgee signed them to Creation Records. The conditions were that the army couldn't buy SFA reocrds any cheaper, and that they didn't have to work on Saint David's day (the Welsh national holiday).
