The Spice Girls burst onto the pop scene in June of '96 with their smash hit single "Wannabe." The female quintet consisted of leader and eldest member Geri/Ginger Spice (born Geraldine Halliwell on Aug. 18, 1972 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England), Mel C/Sporty Spice (born Melanie Jayne Chisholm on Jan. 12, 1974 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England), Posh Spice (born Victoria Adams on Apr. 17, 1975 in Goff's Oak, Hertfordshire, England), Mel b/Scary Spice (born Melanie Janine Brown on May 29, 1975 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England), and Baby Spice (born Emma Lee Bunton on Jan. 21, 1976 in Barnet, England). In late of '93 all five girls moved in together and started writing potential demo songs. In '95 they caught the ear of future manager Simon Fuller(creator of Pop Idol and American Idol) who would get them a record deal with Virgin records.
