Smooth has been singing the Blues, well, it seems like forever. Since he was a boy growing in Canton, Ohio, his mother played Blues, Jazz, and Christian records while she sang along. Smooth started writing when he was about 9 years old by that time his family had moved to Los Angeles, Ca. While in junior high and high school he was in the schools' bands, playing guitar and drums and learning the harmonica from listening to those Blues records his mother still had. His influences were Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, BB King, Percy Mayfield, amoung others. It didn't matter the style of Blues being played, as long as it moved him. The Blues spoke to him, he felt he was living proof of the stories the singers sang about. Growing up in Canton, his family lived next to Jackson park with a stream that always flooded when the rains were heavy.
