Sarai was born and raised in upstate Kingston in New York with her single mother, five brothers, and one sister. Early on, Sarai was interested in rap and hip-hop because of her oldest brother who constantly listened to Run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, and The Fat Boys. Sarai, herself, claims those artists to be her influences along with Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z, Salt N’ Pepa, and MC Lyte. Sarai’s mother loved Fleetwood Mac. At an early age, the young rapper had a large interest in poetry. By the time she reached fifteen years of age, she was writing her own rhymes. Luck hit the young artist when she and a friend took a trip to Atlanta. While there, Sarai accidentally met producer LJ Sutton. In 2000, Sarai decided to forgo educational plans at a nearby community college and devote herself to a musical career. She soon received a deal with Epic Records.
