This progressive rock band from England gains fame generally from the Mike Dunford/Betty Thatcher compositions that featured lead singer Annie Haslam. But the group's history began with an interesting pedigree: Keith Relf and Jim McCarty, with Nashville Teens veterans John Hawken and (later) Michael Dunford, formed a prog-rock spinoff of Relf & McCarty's earlier time with The Yardbirds. Originally, Relf's sister Jane was lead vocalist but after an almost 100% personnel turnover Annie Haslam was auditioned and hired. With the album "Ashes Are Burning", the group surfaced and continued to chart throughout the 1970's. Most of these LP-era albums (along with unreleased material) are being released in CD, if not out already in that form. |
