The Red Light Runners formed in 1997 as a 3-piece acoustic rock-punk band. Mostly playing in basements, garages, and at local parks. The bands' 1st recording, simply entitled "Demo" was released in early 1999. The influence of reggae was noticable on the album, but hadn't yet become a major part of The Red Light Runner sound ("Demo" will be available on Isound soon!). Soon after, drummer Matt Pain and bassist Andy Rawson departed from the band. With the addition of bassist Nima Khazaeli, The Red Light Runners began to exlore its' musical influences. With new drummer Matt Rising, the band piled more energy into the punk, and reggae started becoming more noticable in their sound. Founder and frontman Travis Saathoff, along with guitarist Jimmy Navel led the band through this transition.
