Alecia Beth Moore was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 1979. For as far back as she can remember, all she ever wanted to do was sing. She would sing every chance she got - school plays, gospel at church, punk bands at 13. She said: "Any problem I've ever had just fades away when I'm on stage." When Alecia was only 7 years old, her parents split up, which was the milestone in a life torn apart. Her father, Jim, was a Vietnam Veteren, and her mother, Judy, was an ER nurse - she has a brother, Jason, who is two years older than she is. The turning point in her "career" came when she was just 16 years old: she was at a club and her friends told her to get up on stage and sing, so she did. The DJ told her that she had a good voice and that if she came back on Friday's he'd give her a guest spot.
