Phoenix began her love affair with music at the young age of 4 years old. She can still recall the times when most kids would be out playing with their friends that she'd be in her room recording herself over and over again with a boom box stereo singing Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston songs. She began singing in the church at age 15. Although she had been writing poems and thoughts since she was 12 yrs old, she had never fully understood melody and the elements of song writing. It wasnt until she was presented with an instrumental track and asked to write melodies to it that she realized how important songwriting really was. Phoenix was born in Santa Ana, California. She was raised by a young, single mother and her father was a heroin addict who was in and out of prison for most of her life.
