The Paper Airplanes weren't always The Paper Airplanes; in fact, origami was the last thing on their minds. Like any other band, changing names came along with the music. Back and forth through names like Three of a Kind, Jets to Memory, and The Acoustica, the band finally realized that the music is what makes the name and not the other way around. Passionate Dallas musicians, Hassan & Sumair, started playing guitar in the 10th grade and realized their true potential and ear for music throughout the years. Three of a Kind first started in February of 2005 with Hassan Ali (vocals/guitar), Sumair Merani (lead guitar), Adnan Merchant (drums), and no bass player, as a band performing cover songs for their local church and at various parties. As they improved, original ideas started forming in their heads, so Hassan and Sumair started working more heavily on their own style of music instead of covers.
