Papa Roach is a nu-metal band formed in Vacaville, North California in 1993. The band, which has been compared to Korn and Limp Bizkit, consist of Jacoby Shaddix (stage name: Colby Dick, vocals, 1976 Vacaville), Dave Buckner (Vacaville 1976, drums), Will James (bass), and Jerry Horton (1975 Vacaville, guitar). The boys were high school buddies. The band named themselves after Dick’s grandfather (papa) and the insect; roach. They felt that the roach symbolizes longevity and resilience. Their debut album entitled Potatoes For Christmas was released on their own label in 1994. In 1996, roadie Tobin Esperonce (1980 Vacaville) replaced James. The group then released their second album entitled Old Friends From Young Years. The album contained a lot of Hip-Hop. In fact, Dick rapped many of the verses.
