Over-sized midget band playing "tracks that aren't too electronic for the rock crowd, or too rock for the electronic crowd - instead, they're right on the money....Somebody should let these guys loose in a major nightclub on the Strip." - Jarret Keene, CityLife
onara began as a trio in 2005, playing shows in a basement in Rhode Island. The ceiling in the basement was barely six feet, forcing the band to perform crouched in the subterranean chamber filled with smoke, lights and throngs of similarly crouched fans. From the beginning, onara's music was difficult to pinpoint into any specific genre, while at the same time, it remained easily accessible. Originally an instrumental outfit, onara combined the essence of Classic Rock n' Roll with Modern Industrial, Metal and Post-Grunge elements, throwing in Punk, Funk and other junk for good measure. The instrumental format was never intended to be permanent, but after trying out a dozen or more singers, no one seemed the right fit for onara's eclectic style. In 2006, onara decided to move out West, and its members unanimously chose Las Vegas to be the band's new home. Struggling with more vocalists that did not work out, onara performed and continued to write as an instrumental band until late 2007, when the bass player met their future singer in a comic book store. Right when onara finally found its lead vocalist, one of the band’s founding members left to return home to Rhode Island, opening the door for Elan Thompson, the current drummer for onara. Elan brings the experience and energy to onara that fuels an explosive, fun, entertaining performance.
onara spent the last part of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 feverishly writing new songs and recording their debut CD, 'Out Of Print'.
Out Of Print is a collection of songs about wild parties, betrayal, politics, institutionalization and more. At the core, though, each song is about relationships, either with a lover, family, friends, strangers, a person's self, or with the world in general. Whether disguised as a song about computer viruses, voyeurism, or even the circus, each song has a story behind it. The music defies conventional classification, and challenges the listener to develop their own interpretation.
Out of Print has been reviewed in Las Vegas CityLife magazine and radio play on 107.9FM in Vegas.
