Maroon 5 first began in the late 1990s under the name, Kara’s Flowers. At that point, the group consisted of Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums). The group played their first show at The Whiskey; located in Los Angeles on September 16, 1995. The band caught the attention of labels, and soon signed to Reprise records. Their debut album, The Fourth World, was released during the summer of 1997. Kara’s Flowers then began touring with Reel big Fish and Goldfinger. In 1990, the group left Reprise and decided that they wanted to take a different musical direction. They also added guitarist James Valentine to the group. The band then decided to change their name to Maroon 5. Maroon 5 then traveled back and forth from New York City to Los Angeles, showcasing their music and hoping to get a record deal.
