The very beginning of KMFDM was in the year 1984. The multinational Artist group “Erste Hilfe” should perform on stage for the opening ceremony of a Vernissage in the Grand Palais in Paris and still looked for a band, which accompanied this Vernissage with music in the background. KMFDM was founded by Sascha Konietzko and Udo Sturm at this time and shortly after Raymond “Pig” Watts and En Esch on the drums completed the Line-Up. Even if the first unreleased album “Opium” only existed on tape in the underground music-scene of Hamburg, so KMFDM left the musical underground purposeful. In the end of the 80s, when a hand full American Industrial-Bands conquered the Charts, the time came for KMFDM too to get public. They signed a contract with the Label “Wax Trax” in Chicago, and shortly after they performed as supporting band for Ministry on tour. They got a very good Feedback, and because of that mastermind Sascha Konietzko decided to move the home of KMFDM to Chicago in the beginning ... |
