Rick Mercer of Edmonton, AB was playing guitar in a garage band with some friends when his mom told him they'd be relocating to Hay River, NT. He had to quit, "Lost Ghosts". Two months after living in Hay River he met up with Philip Yarrison who was a drummer for a band called, "Something's Wrong". He was one year younger than the other three members (grad 1998) and when they graduated they went off to go to college around the country. So right after graduating he decided to invest in a small house down the street from his mom's where he could set up all his instruments (and still walk down the street for supper) After Mercer graduated in 2000, he moved in with Yarrison and they started a duo called, "Kids" named after the film. In 2002 they were playing a show opening for another local band, "Sip Yek Nom" when they met a guy who liked the direction of the music but thought it could go so much further with more.
