Kathleen started her singing career in Perth, Scotland where she won many competitions including the Premiership award at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival. Prior to coming to Australia Kathleen performed extensively throughout Europe and broadcast regularly on Scottish radio Kathleen was the First Principal artist to be contracted with the WA Opera Company performing in Il Trovatore, Cosi Fan Tutti, Albert Herring, Orpheus in the Underworld, Gypsy Baron, The Medium to name but a few and was finalist in the ABC Young performers Awards and the New York Metropolitan Opera competition. It was during this time that she was spotted by Opera Australia and offered a Principal Artist Contract going on to perform over 30 roles in The Sydney Opera House including, Rosina- Barber of Seville, Varvara - Katya Kabanova, Suzuki - Madam Butterfly, Zerlina – Don Giovanni, Pheobe (Yeoman of the Guard), Lady Saphir – Patience.
