Jurassic 5 was formed in Los Angeles in 1993. Against the group’s name, there is actually six members. Jurassic 5 consists of rappers Marc 7even, Chali 2na, Zaakir, and Akil. The group also consists of producers / mixers Cut Chemist and DJ Nu-Mark. The members met in 1993 at LA café/venue, Good Life. The Venue is based in historic Jazz District in south, central LA. At that time, the men were actually members of groups, Rebels of Rhythm and Unity committee. They began to collaborate and then took the name Jurassic 5. In 1995, Jurassic 5 released the single, “Unified Rebellion,” for TVT Records. The single was a huge hit for college radio stations. In 1997, the group released their self-titled, nine track EP. Critics claimed, Jurassic 5, to be the freshest and probably most important Hip-Hop release for the year. The EP sold over 200,000 copies in both the UK and the United States.
