Jon MacKinder was born into a family of an ex-USO dancer/producer mother and a university-taught engineer father. Though the parents come from big, Midwest cities, the boy is instead sheltered in a quiet, rural town with a population of scarcely 2000 and 'educated' in a private school by the last of the nuns that still taught with sticks. He learned how to fight on the school playgrounds where it is debatable which was more brutal — class time or recess. His father dies of cancer when he is 14 and the girl of his high-school dreams is killed by a drunk driver when he is 15. By 16 he has left school and left home with his guitar and hitched off to Hollywood....
