The High Water Marks' lineup reads like a true indie supergroup. The band features Hilarie Sidney of The Apples in Stereo on vocals and guitar, Per ole Bratset of Palermo on guitar and vocals, Jim Lindsay of Oranger covering drums, and Mike Snowden from Von Hemming maintiaining the low end. Their debut record Songs About The Ocean is drenched with tides of luminous melodies that will transport listeners to bliss. The album was concieved and partially executed by Sidney and Bratset through the mail between Lexington and Norway, before Sidney simply took to a jet to finish the record in an Oslo hotel room with Bratset. From the jangling drive of album opener “Good I Feel Bad” to the overdriven swell of “Queen of Verlaine,” the High Water Marks play with the intensity of a fuzz-pop supernova. On songs like “Five Thousand” and “Suicide” the band demonstrates their grace and precision using sweeter melodies without losing their distinctive energy. At times raw and buzzing, other times... |
