The FKO make the kind of noises that annoy small animals and worry their neighbours. The band members have no names. They are simply known as Operators I, T and V.
They were initially formed in 1997 to record two tribute/concept albums based on the work of The Smiths but played using the latest computer equipment. Many tracks were started, but very few were finished due to "musical differences" between the five original members. The albums were going to be called 'The Quaver is dead' and 'Beat is murder'. Completed tracks included 'Heavens knows I'm minimalist now' and 'Feel around the Rountain'.
Following the lead of Metallica (see the Some Kind of Monster DVD) the FKO decided to seek external help to refocus the band and move onto other projects. Unable to afford a dedicated performance coach, they ended up with half hour sessions every 3 weeks at the local citizens advice bureau which was based at a primary school. After 10 sessions two members had quit. This was mainly due to musical differences but some said they were very unhappy at having to spend so much time on chairs meant for 5 year old children!
The three remaining members decided to produce diverse music using computers and samples with the occasional traditional instrument. The tracks for the first album Worth the Wait? are now completed and await the discerning listener. Four are now available on www.myspace.com/thefko.
However, the story doesnt end there. The neighbours of the FKO have managed to have ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders for non UK readers) served on the band for the several months of late night noise they had to endure while the tracks were mixed. The ASBOs forbid the FKO from making any loud noises in the future. Does this mean that the next tracks will be made on (quiet) acoustic instruments? Only time will tell. |
