Enya was born as Eithne Ní Bhraonáin on May 17, 1961 in Dun na nGal, Ireland. Her parents were Leo and Baba and she had 8 siblings. Her mother taught music and her father was a musician so Eithne was bound to have a career in music. Like her father she chose the life of a performing musician. In 1980 she joined some relatives who were in An Clann As Dobhair (Irish for "family from Dore"). In 1982 and two albums later she left and moved in with the producer and his wife. She later composed a few songs and recorded for "The Frog Prince" but it wasn't until 1987 when she became Enya and released the soundtrack "March of the Celts". These events lead up to the release of albums such as Watermark('88), Shepherd Moons ('91), The Memory of Trees ('95), and the "best of" album Paint the Sky with Stars. |
