O’Neil Bryan was born on September 11, 1975 in Seaview Gardens, Jamaica, West Indies. He got the name, Elephant Man, from a nickname. His soccer friend and fellow reggae artist, Crack Skull, used to call Elephant Man, “Dumbo the Elephant,” for his large ears; which people said reminded them of the Disney film. In 1991, while still in high school, Crack Skull put Elephant Man into contact with some of his music industry connections. The result was Elephant Man hitting the studio and recording some beats. He soon became a member of the group, Scare Dem Crew. Soon after the group’s first release, they disbanded. Elephant Man, however, was unwilling to accept failure. He began working as a solo artist. This is where he started his trademark of bleached yellow hair. This is also around the time where he received the nickname, “Energy God,” for his high-spirited, fun live shows.
