Echo & The Bunnymen is one of the (if not the) finest of the British Post-Punk bands of the late \\\'70s and one of the bright shining lights of \\\'80s music. They have created a series of records that have ranged from gloomy, muted blasts of dark guitars and haunting vocals to upbeat pop songs with fun orchestral arrangements. This band has woven sullen images of mystery with their cloudy, swirling, psychedelic tapestries. Lead singer Ian McCullough flaunted his permanently tousled and nicotine-addled self through the English press of the \\\'80s and his band backed him up with Doors-fueled dramatic dirges that grew into masterpieces that are arguably quite gothic.
