Though E M J was born in Scottsboro, Alabama, He spent the majority of his childhood and teenage years with his two brothers and three sisters in the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a teen, E M J showed a deep interest in music. It wasn't until 1992, that he begin to write songs and ultimately made the decision to pursue a career in music. Fueled with the desire to learn about the business aspect of the music industry, E M J made the decision to attend The Art Institute of Atlanta in 1993. There he majored in Music Business/Music Management. Unfortunately, after only five months of school E M J was forced to withdraw from the Institute because of family and financial problems. A short time after this event occurred E M J joined the US Army. He felt that this would be the best way to get back into school because the Army was giving him money for college.
