Boabab is, of course, named after the exceptionally alien and mystical tree, the Baobab. For Ed Lewis, this tree has always stood out and he fell in love with it’s beautiful odd-ugliness while travelling through Africa. The Baobab has been used for many different functions, some natural and others man made. The incredible thing about the tree is that its trunk is massive in circumference and completely hollow on the inside. The tree has been used as a beer-bar, a jail and even tombs. These ancient trees are surrounded by many myths and legends. It is often called the Upsidedown tree, because the branches are thick and short and look more like roots. Because of the hollow trunks, the tree catches and stores rain water. Elephants can often be seen drinking from the trunk. The tree also has fruit, which are quite sour, but the locals make sweets out of them by dipping them in sugar.
