Avant was born in 1978 in Chicago, Illinois. The singer first got recognition when he was signed to NBA great, Magic Johnson’s label, Magic Johnson Music. Avant’s debut album was released by MCA on May 2, 2000. Prior to the album being released, the singer had a hit with his single, “Separated.” The single, which was about the artist’s bad break-up with a girlfriend, was released in 1999 on the MCA compilation entitled Summer Heat. Avant’s album, My Thoughts, was produced by Steve Huff. The album also had a mild success with single, “My First Love.” In 2002, the singer released Ecstasy. The single, “Read Your Mind,” was on the billboard charts in November 2003.
