Originally named 'the Chairhoppers', Asher started out as two friends in a small town high school. The band's first objective was to make people laugh. Jimmy and Nathan wrote 'spoof songs' to entertain classmates. The high school decided to let them play at the 'End of the Year Show.' Needing a name, they used one of their Principal's terms: "chairhopping" as inspiration. Chairhopping: the act of frequently changing seats to indulge in different social atmospheres, while withholding no commitments to any and all chairs, in a cafeteria or lunch room setting. ex: " I will not tolerate any chairhopping in the lunch room." In 1997 an anti-chairhopping motion was passed, formally known as Assigned Seating. As Jimmy and Nathan's band grew in size and depth, another band member was waiting in the shadows just 15 miles away.
