A member of Genesis for their first two albums, Phillips left the band due to bouts of stage fright in 1970. Recording of various demo projects, however, continued with Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford, then Peter Gabriel as late as 1976. In 1977 Phillips completed and released his first solo album, "The Geese And The Ghost", followed by "Wise After The Event", "Sides" and "Private Parts And Pieces". In 1979 he played on Rutherford's album "Smallcreep's Day", then continued TV, film and video soundtrack work simultaneously with small solo album releases to the present day. His new-age flavored guitar, piano and voice stylings may be more suited to musicians or Genesis completists than for general release, but Phillips has found enough of an audience to keep his solo releases coming in a steady stream.
