BIOGRAPHY BLUE was born in Asheville, N.C. where she learned the violin, performed in orchestras, sang in choirs, and sat at her mom’s feet listening to her play Broadway and film show tunes on the piano. bLUE began writing songs at a young age, with early R&B influences coming from records by Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight, Elvis, and Prince, which she collected. After graduating high school, bLUE set off for Atlanta where she earned a degree in commercial art design. During this period bLUE began developing her vocal skills while listening to artists TLC, Toni Braxton, and Mariah Carey. In 1998, bLUE moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she soaked up the sounds of Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson, Al Green, and the gritty sounds of dirty-south Hip Hop, which dominated the local music scene. In 1999, bLUE co-wrote and released her first album “Candy Box”. The album sold over 7,000 units and included a re-make of Al Green’s smash “Simply Beautiful”, which is still played on Memphis radio... |
